Harry Potter is back||this time, in technicolour…

Harry Potter is going to be back in a new book and for the first time his magical shenanigans will be fully illustrated.

So you’ve read all seven Harry Potter books multiple times, watched the movies a million times, visited the theme parks, museums and everything in between. How can you keep your Potter love alive? You can soon revisit the series through a whole new set of eyes.

All seven books have just been illustrated in a stunning volume by illustrator Jim Kay.

Kay knows his work is cut out for him.

It’s a series everyone has read. It’s a series everyone has an opinion on. It’s also a series everyone has shared visually in eight separate movies. And one everyone has been emotionally invested in.

The Philosopher’s Stone will be on the shelves on October 6.

The lavish images include the damage Hagrid can inflict with an umbrella, Malfoy charming a tape measure and the Weasley’s wacky home.

Those eyes belong to artist Jim Kay, who has completed a brand new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which will be out October 6. A few images from the book were released earlier this year, but a brand new one of the Dark Lord himself was just released, as well as a few others we haven’t run yet.

Note: The Voldemort image above won’t have the percentages around it. That’s just from a social media reveal.

In a stunning mish-mash of oils, acrylics, watercolor, digital coloring, he’s done a degree of detailing that even Rowling hadn’t conceived of. In Diagon Alley, for example, Kay noticed that there were a lot of gaps between shops. Would Rowling mind if he filled in those gaps?

No she wouldn’t, it turned out. So Kay drew, lending colour, detail and architecture to a narrative that was already rich with detail and history.

“Seeing Jim Kay’s illustrations moved me profoundly,” said J.K. Rowling. “I love his interpretation of Harry Potter’s world, and I feel honored and grateful that he has lent his talent to it.”

The book has over 100 brand new illustrations in it so these are merely a taste. They’re sure to give the original Harry Potter book a whole new feel, and one decidedly different from the movies.
