The Tata owned Jaguar is again set to take luxury on new heights with the introduction of 2016 variant of its popular saloon XJ. The upcoming car from British carmaker’s stable has been officially unveiled and is expected to make its way to India very soon. In a bid to keep it lively, the auto giant has provided a few key upgrades that basically spin around exteriors and interiors. Moreover, the car is now also available in high-end Autobiography spec variant, which will only be offered in the LWB (long-wheelbase) form.
Starting with the exteriors, the all new Jaguar XJ still appeals through its aggressive looks like before and few tweaks on outer side has made the vehicle more striking. From refreshed bumper and front grille to all LED headlamps with J-Blade DRLs and LED tail lamps, everything has been refurbished to make the vehicle trending amid the competition. Additionally, the car also comes with a larger air-intake in the 2016 model.
Moreover, XJ R-Sport trim also features a rear spoiler, side power vents, new side sills and 3-piece front splitter. The car continues to sport aluminium construction so the weight of the body is reduced and performance is increased. The 2016 XJ model has been offered in two wheelbase choices; standard and long, thereby giving duality of character.
Coming to the interiors, the company has put a lot of efforts to make inside appealing and comfy. While the instrument cluster has been renewed, a new 17-speaker Meridian sound system has been provided as a standard feature, customers can also opt for 26-speaker 1300 Watt system. Apart from this, a new 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system coming with a 60 gig solid hard drive and multi-touch control will add to the fun frolic environment inside the cabin. The Autobiography version gets leather headliner, individual seats with massaging and sliding function and 10.2 inch foldable HD display for rear seat entertainment.
Some more advanced features like driver assistance feature and All Surface Progress Control unit are also offered in the upcoming Jaguar. This system has been claimed to impel a powerful car at low speeds on greasy surfaces like ice and snow. Moreover, the rear drive vehicle will be packed with a semi automated parking unit and new electric power-assisted steering rack.
On the power front, the all new Jaguar XJ carries under its hood, two engine choices from its range of all-aluminium V6 and V8 mills. Each of the motor in the car is packed with the variable valve timing, direct injection and intelligent stop/start system that assist the car in delivering superior performance. While the 3.0-litre engine option churns out 340 hp power output and comes with rear or all wheel drive option, the 5.0 litre Forced fed V8 mill can belt out 550hp power. All the power mills are mated to a purposely optimised eight-speed automatic transmission.
Speaking on the new entrant in Jaguar’s portfolio, Mr. Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director for the Jaguar XJ stated that with so many new upmarket and technologically advanced features, Jaguar XJ is set to offer luxury that no other car can give. From new class leading infotainment unit, interior quality and finish to lower emission engine choices, XJ will surely take the lavishness on new level.
In terms of pricing, nothing has been revealed yet. Looking at the above specs and features, there surely arises a question- Would with this refreshed XJ be able to take on the likes of its rivals like Merc S Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8?
