Maruti Suzuki Swift could be the next product to be equipped with automatic transmission for the Indian market. An automatic gearbox will be used in Ertiga and S-Cross models as well. Currently, Maruti Suzuki is offering the more affordable Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) on most models.
Only the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki will be paired to a 4-speed Automatic Transmission and not the diesel variant. Maruti Suzuki will be increasing the price considerably of this new option. Swift is expected to be redesigned soon and will be introduced in several markets by 2017.
Maruti Suzuki will provide the new Swift with its SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) engine option. The 2017 Maruti Swift is expected to be cheaper than the existing hatchback. Currently, a 4-speed automatic transmission option is offered in the Baleno, Ciaz, Swift Dzire, and Ritz. Opting for a CVT or a traditional Automatic Transmission would increase pricing of the vehicle and would affect the pricing of budget models.
The Automated Manual Transmission is offered as an option on several of Maruti Suzuki new offerings. Maruti Suzuki provides the Alto K10, Celerio, and Wagon R. The plan is to offer each and every model with an optional AMT or AT gearbox for ease of driving.
