Move over the Mercedes M-Class, there is a new thug in town. Mercedes India is all set to launch the facelift version of the M Class SUV, called the Mercedes GLE on October 14. Moreover, the new car will come with the CKD kit and will be assembled at the company’s factory in Pune.
The new Mercedes GLE will come with two diesel engine options- 250d and the 350d engines. The 250d variant will come with a 2.1-litre, four-cylinder, V6 turbo-diesel engine which will churn out a peak power of 204bhp and a peak torque of 480Nm, mated to the new 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, while the 350d variant will be powered by a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel engine producing maximum power output of 254bhp and maximum torque of 618Nm, mated to the same 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. Moreover, the new 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox makes its debut in the country with the Mercedes GLE, while both the variants will come with the 4MATIC AWD system. The new Mercedes GLE will zoom from 0-60km/hr in just four seconds, with a top speed of 250km/hr.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV will be offered with a choice of 2 diesel motors: 2.1-litre and 3.0-litre V6. While the 2.1-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, puts out 201bhp along with 500Nm of peak torque, the V6 promises 254 horses and a maximum torque of 620Nm. Interestingly, with the new GLE SUV, Mercedes-Benz will also introduce the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission in India.
With that being said, the German carmaker is also likely to introduce the AMG variant of the GLE SUV, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, in India albeit some time later. Successor to the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG, the GLE 63 S houses the AMG 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 engine under the hood.
Engines powering the GLE will remain the same as the outgoing M Class. It is powered by two diesel engines, an inline-four and a V6 unit under the hood of the GLE 250d and GLE 350d respectively. The former generates 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque while the latter is the more powerful unit with outputs of 258 PS and 620 Nm.
Both variants will transfer power to the road through the 4MATIC AWD system and the new 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, which makes its debut in India.
